The Ten Commandments of Communicating with People with Disabilities

The Ten Commandments of Communicating with People with Disabilities will provide you with further insight on how to interact with, communicate and write about persons living with disabilities. Have you ever been in an awkward situation when interacting with a person with an obvious disability and you were not what to say, or felt uncomfortable asking if they wanted assistance? Or have you found yourself saying something that offended the person, and not know how to correct the mistake. Often time’s interactions with persons with disabilities may seem intimidating at first, but once you are engaged in a conversation, the uncertainty fades away.

This session will demonstrate the does and don’ts of communicating with persons with various disabilities. It is designed to erase society concepts and learned behavior regarding persons living with disabilities. In essence, to see the person, while overlooking the disability type.
